About the Center for Great Plains Studies and Art Museum

Since its founding in 1976, the Center for Great Plains Studies and its Great Plains Art Museum has been focused on uplifting and studying all things Great Plains, from art and literature to ecology and agriculture. It's our mission to showcase the unique and vibrant cultures and environments of the Great Plains through our art museum, public programming, publications, and educational opportunities.

Learning from the past to shape the future of the Great Plains.

We need your help to sustain and expand the impact of the Center and Museum for the next 50 years. Please contribute to our campaign to raise $50,000 in our 50th year to help us grow.

Strengthen our impact

The Center has a long history of leading projects that expand our knowledge of and engagement with the Great Plains, from the Discover the Great Plains book series to our Ecotourism and Black Homesteaders projects. Currently, our Walking in the Footsteps of our Ancestors: Re-Indigenizing Southeast Nebraska partnership with the Otoe-Missouria Tribe of Oklahoma is reconnecting the tribe with their ancestral lands in Nebraska while engaging non-Native people with the history, art, and resurgence of the tribe and other Indigenous peoples in our region. Your contribution will help us sustain this unique project and plan for future projects that contribute to the dynamism of the Great Plains.
