About the Campaign 📐

Unicameral Design Magazine is Nebraska’s premier student-led publication dedicated to highlighting the state’s architecture and design community. Produced through a collaboration between students, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and design professionals, Unicameral highlights innovative work from across Nebraska while creating opportunities for emerging designers to engage with the profession. Through each volume, students gain experience in design journalism, graphic design, writing, editing and publishing while building connections with practicing professionals. By sharing Nebraska’s design story with audiences locally and nationally, Unicameral elevates the state’s creative community and prepares the next generation of designers.

How does this impact students?

Unicameral Design Magazine is the only design-focused magazine in Nebraska, creating impact for students, professionals and the broader design community. It gives UNL graduate students hands-on experience in design journalism while connecting them with practicing architects and designers, creating valuable professional opportunities. For Nebraska’s architects and alumni, the magazine provides a platform to highlight their work to audiences across the state and beyond. Architectural Record Editor-in-Chief Josephine Minutillo described Unicameral as “a great source of information on the design work coming out of the state of Nebraska.” Ultimately, Unicameral increases recognition of Nebraska’s design community while preparing students for successful careers.

Why should you support this project?

Unicameral Design Magazine is a meaningful project because it connects University of Nebraska–Lincoln students with Nebraska’s professional design community and audiences beyond the state, including our elected officials, Nebraska high school students and designers around the world. The publication gives UNL graduate students hands-on experience in design journalism, graphic design, writing and editing while creating opportunities to network with award-winning professionals, experiences that can directly support their careers after graduation.

Funds will be allocated exclusively to printing and distributing the magazine to Nebraska high schools, North American peer colleges and universities and their respective design schools. Additionally, the funds secured during Big Red Boost will allow us to distribute to an additional 100+ addresses that we couldn’t before. All operational expenses are supported by a donation from an alumnus of the College of Architecture and the College of Journalism and Mass Communications.
